Chorley Panthers 6pts vs 32pts Heysham Atoms

N.W.Mens League Cup Prelim Round

( Abandoned 47 mins due to injury to a chorley player )

The Atoms moved into the first round proper of the League Cup after a short journey down the M6 to Chorley. The game was unfortunatly abandoned shortly after half time when the Atoms were in full control benefiting from their best performance of pre-season so far. They looked very sharp in possesion and strong in defence which was a potent combination that Chorley just couldn't handle. Jamie Cottle and Matty Humpage carved openings for themselves time after time after their forwards had gained total command of the middle ground.

The Atoms scored within the first few minutes of the opening as prop forwards Liam Hall and Curtis Lacey had won every collision put in front of them. Billy Livingstone chipped ahead and winger Micheal Forrest picked up the bobbling ball and dived over the line for a try.

A lightning break from scrum half Jamie Cottle started inside his own half and finished off under Chorley's postsfor a 12 nil lead.

On 25 mins the Panthers finally had some pressure on the Atoms line and this resulted in their only points of the game. Callum Hall came off the bench and made an immediate impact scoring a try with his first touch of the ball after Jake Harrison had claimed the kick off superbly.

Matty Humpage made a fifty yard break being just brought down close to the line. Jack Lawton picked up frrom Dummy Half  and stretched over the line for his first score of the season. Man of the Match Jamie Cottle scored his second, superb individual try of the contest as he again broke from deep, rounding numerous players on his way to the line. The Atoms went close on 2 more occasions before the break with Chris Thomas and Jack Edmondson only denied by some excellent defending.

The second half started pretty much as the first had ended with the Atoms well on top. Mark Walker and Al Crookall were strong all afternoonand they set up great field position for Jack Edmondson to take on his opposite number. He brushed him aside with ease before rounding the full back for a great score. Forrest made it 4 conversions from 6 attempts before the game was called off due to neck injury to a chorley player.
