From The Saddle
What a difference a week makes. It was a week for our veterans who dominated the scoreboard with half the tries that were scored by the Atoms on the weekend, Peter Livingstone scored a magnificent hat trick of tries and Gavin Halliwell scored one of the eight tries that the Atoms placed on Bamber Bridge on the weekend, both of these seasoned players are over 40 and it just goes to show you that age truly has no boundaries. It was a pleasing state of mind on the weekend when you knew that the game was well and truly in our hands and it was going to be by how many we would win by which would be the final outcome. It is also very pleasing when the pressure valve is realized somewhat to see how talented the boys really are. There were some classy tries on the weekend and when you are averaging 70 meters on every attacking breakdown the ball travels through many sets of hands which from a crowd perspective is very entertaining. All players that entered the contest on Saturday played well and it was only our discipline at stages that made us look messy and unattractive to watch, hopefully this will be the last ill disciplined performance we will see from the lads this year. The only negative on the weekend is that Bamber Bridge was not worth 22 points and our defensive line at some stages of the game were lackadaisical, sometimes when you are playing lesser sides you tend to reduce your standard but for future reference we need to stay intense for the full 80 minutes. 40-22 was a very pleasing score line and to beat our neighbors' in the competition is always pleasing for the boys, the intensive rivalry was felt from the very first tackle of the game when Liam Hall's bone jarring shoulder charge was felt at every corner of the ground, Liam lead from the front and other tackles in front of the big crowd went down a treat. Rob Shaw is starting to show again facets of his game that had him in the starting lineup earlier in the season, Shane Weeds is injecting himself forcefully into the early stages of the game, Lee Harvey's grass cutting defense is always a pleasure to watch, Both pivots Andrew Helme and Keith Hartlebury were outstanding at there roles on the weekend taking on the line and rallying there troupes around them to continually make huge inroads into the Bridge defense. (good game Soupy). Till next week: Go the Atoms! Scott Saddler
