Easy points for Atoms
Heysham Atoms 18 - Bamber Bridge 0
THE Heysham Atoms' intended opponents, Bamber Bridge, were unable to send
a team of sufficient strength to fulfil this North West Counties Division
Two fixture on Saturday.
The Atoms were awarded the valuable two league points and given an 18-0
victory for the records. The Atoms were confident of victory after beating
bottom-placed Bamber Bridge over on their own patch at the beginning of
November, by a winning margin of 34-16.
In that game the three-quarters really found their form with Andy Garnett
and Lewis Mills sharing the six tries scored. Neil Walker kicked five
out of six in this comfortable victory. The unluckiest man in the Atoms
squad must be young Colin Bebbington. He has been selected in the first
17 twice, after impressing with his improvement throughout the season.
The first occasion was away at Shaw Rhinos when the coach broke down on
the M61 and then this Saturday when Bamber failed to show. Although disappointed
his chance will come again and he can finally show his skills out on the
park. Ashton Bears visit the Trimpell on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
Their form has been a little inconsistent having had some good wins earlier
in the season, but again the Atoms can enter the game with real confidence.
Coach Dave Crow can look forward to picking a strong line-up with the
return of Bryan Cambidge, Lewis Mills and Guy Richardson.
