The View From The Axe

The Eagles landed well and truly on Saturday.

In two blistering spells of 15 minutes either side of half time, Blackpool swooped for the points and made off with them before Lancaster could draw breath.

The game started brightly enough for Lancaster. We were in control and opted for the luxury of putting over a couple of penalty goals for various infringements.

But we were then given a harsh lesson in value of possession. In the middle period Blackpool were scoring almost at will, and each try gave them another set of six with which to attack us, as we restarted the game.

When we finally got some possession near the end, we showed them what we could do with the ball, with three tries in quick succession, but by then it was too little, too late.

At the moment inconsistency is out biggest problem. We are only playing in 15-20 minute spells. Our defence was nothing short of woeful at times, so this week we are going to be concentrating on it in training. If we can keep improving a bit each week, we will move forward, but we face a stern test with the visit of the top-of-the-table Carlisle Centurions on Saturday, (Giant Axe, 2.30PM)
