The View From The Axe
This fixture was a headache from the start, with the more experienced players in the squad already committed to completing fixtures with their winter clubs. With these out of the way (Lancaster Uni defeated York in the annual 'Roses' battle, whilst on Tuesday evening the Atoms bowed out of the North Lancashire Cup at the Semi final stage in a brutal match against local rivals Bamber Bridge) the Lancaster club can now look forward to the rest of the season with confidence, with healthy numbers at training and the quality growing with each session. This Saturday sees our first home match of the season, against Chester Wolves (12.30pm, Giant Axe). Like Carlisle a fortnight ago, Chester will be bringing an experienced squad, many of whom have played together for a number of seasons. They are sure to test the Lancaster defences, and along with Carlisle, are one of the favourites to finish at the top end of the table when we head into the playoffs in August. With most of the Atoms players coming through the Semi final relatively unscathed, we should be picking a team from a nearly full strength squad, which leaves the coaching staff hard pressed on whom to leave out. This fixture will be our biggest test to date; will we manage to send
the Wolves back to Chester howling? Bring it on! |
